Want to watch a (German) video? Let's go! Paper clip needed Delete and reconnect Perform a test payment About reopening an invoice that was paid by card

Your Pay Terminal One does not properly connect? Then it can help to perform a reset. This means that you have to delete the saved connection between iPad and Pay Terminal One, and then reconnect the devices. Be sure to take a few minutes for this.

Not in the mood for reading? Then watch our video tutorial on how to reset the card reader (3:36 minutes)...

Let's go!

Paper clip needed

You will need a paper clip or a similar pointed object to reset the device.

Delete and reconnect

  1. orderbird app
Make sure your shift and the orderbird app are closed - including in the background. You can learn how to close the app in the background here: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch.
  2. On your iPad
    1. Next, go to Bluetooth in the Apple device's settings and tap on the small blue “i” behind the entry with the name “orderbird” and your device's serial number. Then select “Forget this device” and confirm with “OK.”
    2. Now switch off the Bluetooth on your iPad by dragging the green slider in the upper right corner to the left. The slider will now turn gray.
  3. On your Pay Terminal One
    1. On the top of the Pay Terminal One, you will find a small hole next to the on/off button. Press in here carefully with the tip of a paper clip and hold it down until a menu appears on the screen. The 3rd option is called “Total Factory Reset.”
    2. Press “3” on the keypad. Please confirm this with the green check mark on the terminal. Now your Pay Terminal One will reboot. This may take some time.
    3. As soon as the orderbird logo and the Bluetooth symbol appear in the upper left corner of the display and the blue Bluetooth light in the upper right corner blinks quickly, you can reconnect the devices.
  4. Back to your Apple device
    1. On the Apple device, go to Settings, then Bluetooth, where you tap on the gray slider to activate Bluetooth.
    2. Now your Pay Terminal One appears as a new entry, consisting of “orderbird” and the last six digits of the serial number of the device.
  5. On iPad and card reader
    1. On the Apple device, tap on the entry and confirm the pairing,
    2. Confirm the pairing also on the Pay Terminal One by pressing the button with the green checkmark.
    3. The display on your Pay Terminal One will show “Connected”.

Perform a test payment

Test the connection between the terminal and iPad with a test payment.

  1. Open a shift, go to the orderpad, and book an item there.
  2. Now tip on the tree dots, select “Pay” at the bottom of the screen, and “Card payment” in the following step.
  3. Now the amount will be sent to Pay Terminal One.
  4. The first transaction after (re)connecting the Apple device and the card reader will trigger a key generation process (Schlüsselerzeugung), which ensures that the device cannot be easily connected to another device in case of loss. This process can take up to a minute.
  5. Then, the Pay Terminal One will ask to present the card. The card can be inserted into the device from below. If you have an NFC-enabled cell phone, you can also pay with it.
  6. Now you have to authorize the payment. Contactless payments of up to 50 euros are generally possible without a PIN in Germany, for Swiss customers even up to CHF 80. However, the limits can vary depending on the bank and a PIN is sometimes required for security reasons.
  7. The payment is approved as soon as “Payment successful” is shown on display.
  8. Done! :)

About reopening an invoice that was paid by card

If you reopen an invoice that was previously paid by card, the amount will be automatically credited to the cardholder. The amount has then to be charged by starting a new payment process.
